I was curious to see how images and links were impacting my reach on LinkedIn so I just reviewed the stats of my last 30 posts.
I had one post go viral (8,761 impressions) so I didn’t include that in the analysis because it would have skewed the numbers. FYI, that post had an image and no link.
Here’s what I found:
• 12 posts without images: 697 avg. impressions
• 17 posts with images: 679 avg. impressions
• 16 posts with links: 653 avg. impressions
• 13 posts without links: 630 avg. impressions
I also noticed 60% of my top 10 posts had images and 50% had links.
But 4 of my top 6 posts did not include links.
My Takeaway:
The numbers are all pretty close so I don’t really see a definitive “do this, don’t do this” in these stats.
It does surprise me a bit that the highest avg. impressions come from posts without images, but again…it’s close.
4 of my top 6 posts not including links is maybe a sign that my posts without links have a better shot of really spreading, but I’m not fully convinced of that based on this small sample size.
It’s also worth noting that posts WITH links outperformed posts without them on average.
And posts WITHOUT images outperformed posts with images.
Both of those are a bit counterintuitive and go against the conventional wisdom.
I’d love to see how your numbers compare to these – let me know.
