The Dean Smith rule

Legendary North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith had an interesting rule.

He believed effort was a key to success and that you couldn’t give maximum effort if you were tired.

So he told his players to ask to come out of the game whenever they were tired.

If they did, they got to decide when they went back in.

If they didn’t take themselves out of the game and he noticed they were tired?

He’d take them out…and keep them out for a long time.

Don’t be afraid to take yourself out of the game for a bit – it might be the key to winning.
