I had an epiphany last night.
While reading the book Simplify I asked myself a question:
How would I describe the impact I want to have on the world in 10 words or less?
A phrase popped into my head I’ve never said before:
The impact I want to make is…
“To help people who bet on themselves win.”
It hit me like a ton of bricks as I realized how many of the choices I’ve made in my life and work have been driven by a desire to make that impact.
It’s why I help people get more out of their content.
It’s why I prefer working with individuals over big companies.
It’s why I’ve been drawn to creators, artists, and entrepreneurs.
It’s why I was drawn to working with comedians back in the day.
It’s why I’m not interested in convincing people to bet on themselves, but prefer to help those who have already decided to.
It’s why I walked away from a thriving career to work for myself for the past decade.
It’s why I enjoy working with so many different types of people on so many different types of projects – because it’s not about helping them accomplish a specific goal, it’s about helping them accomplish THEIR specific goal.
Hell, maybe it’s even why I like gambling?
It’s funny how a single sentence can make you see where you’ve been and where you’re going in a whole new light.
I’m excited.
