So, The Oscars Happened.

Here's a look back at all the stuff that's kept me from blogging much lately.

I was too busy getting ready for the Oscars to post about all of the stuff that was happening, but I figure better late than never so here’s some of the highlights of what we did this year (before I forget them).

Despite the ratings, overall it was a good year and I was real happy with some of the stuff we did on the digital side of things. Here’s some examples…

THE OSCARS CREATORS

Maybe the biggest thing we took on this year was the launch of our Oscars Creators program, through which we worked with seven super talented artists across a variety of social platforms including Instagram, Tumblr, and Vine.

We helped give them access to interesting things throughout Oscar Week and in turn they created amazing photos, videos and GIFs around them. Here’s some of my favorites:

Okay, last picture I’ll post here from my week getting a behind-the-scenes look at the Oscars. The rest I’ll be sharing on mine and @theacademy’s Tumblr pages. I followed @neilmeron, one of the show’s two producers, for a day leading up to the big night. So impressed with all the work and talent that goes into such a production. It’s like the ultimate stage show!

ACADEMY ORIGINALS

We also produced a few new Oscars-themed episodes of our Academy Originals video series this year including a look at host Neil Patrick Harris’s creative process, the origins of the Oscar, and a look back at the 1990 Oscars. Check them out:

THE INTERVIEWS

I also had the chance to be interviewed by a bunch of publications about how we approach doing social media around the Oscars. Here’s what I said to the LA Times, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and The Wrap.

In the end, it was quite an Oscars season – lots of work, lots of learning, and even a little bit of fun. I’m looking forward to doing it all again…but not any time soon.
