I cried because this is not a just a story, but a true story of my parents! They are both passed now, but I have B/W photos of their motorcycle journey in December 1960 with four of their friends traveled around the entire island. I nicked them “The First Motorcycle Gang In Taiwan”. My Dad would have been 83 this year.

Thank you.

Ride on gentlemen. Do give up the dream you wished you pursued. The road goes on forever, ride till you die.

What a wonderfully moving and inspirational presentation! I wish good health and a very long life to all those actors….and to everyone who watches this.
Be blessed!

Karen Taylor February 22, 2011 Reply

This was beautiful — that’s how my husband and I felt when we rode. He passed away in December, but it sure brought back some fantasticmemories

Pieter February 22, 2011 Reply

Very cool. I just hope I’m still riding, when I get to be their age. : )

Love this commercial. Born in Taiwan; haven’t been back there in over 40 years; need to go.

Constance February 22, 2011 Reply

Tears running down my cheeks. Made me smile today. Thank you.

APA February 22, 2011 Reply

Bravo!!!
I’m not 81, only 66, and I still ride. My wife still rides with me. This really spoke to me!

My father never had good balance. Could barely ride a bicycle, let alone a motorcycle. But one of my fondest life-memories is when I bundled him up one time – he was already ill then, and, on his request, took him for a ride on my motorcycle. A precious couple of hours!

José Luis Ollé February 22, 2011 Reply

Excellent. Thanks for sharing. Ride on, people!

carla February 23, 2011 Reply

yes! this kind of advertisement should be followed, not those that glorify women in skimpy clothes or men in their macho stance! seeing those aged men as against the times when they were still young and so alive makes you realize that people get old but their dreams do not! happiness is how you make your life be, and it is never too late to continue making your life beautiful and happy!

Bill February 23, 2011 Reply

Mike Hunter February 23, 2011 Reply

I rode when I was younger. I’ve started riding again. When we stop dreaming, we stop living. THAT is why I ride!

Don Lawrence February 23, 2011 Reply

At 65 I am looking forward to the day of retirement next year. David, your dad and his friends inspire me and a whole lot of folks my age out there, and Lord willing, we all WILL live our dreams!! Just one more thing on the “bucket list”.

Re-Al O'Teecheck February 23, 2011 Reply

You there? Busy wiping tears from remembered poignant connections to roots we carry inside? Or maybe miss them? HEY!!! Fine.. BUT ->

Regardless of how people may or may not be moved by this actually rather mild story that ‘s designed to touch on peoples issues of nostalgia, life/death, lost loved ones, putting some meaning into ones plans, or making statements with endtimes of ones’ own winding down…..

ANY OF THAT… in such ways or that evoke such matters in your own lives and stories….

it has ***nothing whatsoever*** beyond product name association WITH THE MYTH THIS AD PROVIDES that says Jack Squat ABOUT THE ACTUAL BUSINESS PRODUCT OR SERVICE BEING LINKED TO IT VIA SPONSORSHIP. What is the bank? and it’s role ? Differing how from any other management of money… more for their benefit than yours on it’s best day, you can be sure of that.

I’ll have some swampland in Florida to offer you as soon as I get the movie theme ad ready to roll at you.

Cheers.. jeez!

Keepin’ it Re-Al

The main reason all commercials cannot be this good is because it’s not a :30 second spot, or a :15 second spot. This commercial is 3:11 long. It is meant to be shown in movie theaters. It’s a small movie with a very soft pedal approach. Nobody’s gonna sell toothpaste this way…

Sue Hom February 23, 2011 Reply

I love it ! As we get older, we should hold our memory and look at a bigger picture of life. Our life is precious…..

Bob Richards February 23, 2011 Reply

Yes, it is the dreams and love that get us through the rough spots and keep us young at heart.

ERROL February 23, 2011 Reply

I ATTENDED A BMW RALLY IN 1990 AT WHICH THERE WERE FOUR RIDERS IN THEIR EIGHTIES. IT IS NOW 2011, I’M SEVENTY , STILL RIDING. JUST FINISHED RESTORING A 1978 GOLDWING WHICH I RODE FROM DENVER COLO. TO PORTLAND ORE. DON’T EVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS !

John February 23, 2011 Reply

I turned 68 today and I can really relate to the video. When I die I want people to say I never grew up.

Harold Cook February 23, 2011 Reply

This was very touching for the old and also for the young (their future). We all have specials friends in our lives that we keep in touch through out years. This commerical will open the eyes and hearts to many that see this and memories of those that has pass will be remembered and those that we have forgotten. Excellent/outstanding commerical! There with God now and with their beloved ones looking down upon the future generations of Taiwan and the world.

I am 67 this month. I have been sitting here on the west coast of Florida debating whether to ride toward Cape Canaveral for a 4:50 pm EST launch and a better perspective for a photograph. This made my decision. Opportunities sometimes come only once.

If this is nonsense, it is only to those who have never loved and never bonded to anyone or anything beyond themselves…

I took my mom on my Goldwing for a ride when she was about 72 years old. We were riding at about 60mph, and she asked me if it went any faster. Three times. Each time, I added 20mph. At 120, she yelled through the intercom, ‘now I know why you have been doing this since you were a dumb little kid…’ I’m still an ‘idiot’, but a happy one. She didn’t stop smiling for days. The Harley guys say ‘live to ride, ride to live’…but I just see it as living IS riding, and vice versa.

I just turned 77, having ridden motorcycles since the age of 12, I know the message of this commercial. I have one knee I was born with, and blind in one eye. All my childhood friends are nearly gone, but I am planning to ride around the southeastern US this spring.
I will do this alone…perhaps as it should be now.

Michael Vandeventer February 24, 2011 Reply

I chuckled at the observation of Re-Al regarding the lack of effort to connect the maxi commercial to any real service or product. He was understandably cynical about the bank’s attempt to inspire confidence among consumers simply by how cool and human the ad was. It really didn’t say diddly about banking, but then I suppose it would be crass to follow up such a story with a plug for a bank, so in that sense the sponsor of the commercial showed some class.

The fact they (TC Bank) paid big bucks to air such a story without any self-aggrandizement is rather refreshing. I doubt too many will transfer their wealth into the hands of this bank because of this commercial, but there will be some who figure the open hearted approach without much corporate fanfare must account for something. I can certainly appreciate the message, if not the bank.

I ride motorcycles for therapy and to feel like a kid as often as possible. Some of my best days on the planet were either as a kid with the wind in my face on a fast bicycle, or as a younger person nearly responsibility-free with the wind in my face on a fast motorcycle. Now I am finding that old feeling coming back big time. Two wheels, single track. Wind in your face. Something about it.

Try it. Be careful

Simple, moving and very effective in making us realise that there is more to life than the daily grind at work. We all have dreams and some of us are lucky enough to be able to live them. These motor cyclists show us that it can be done and that age and infirmity are not real barriers to living the dream. It made me think about my dreams which are not riding a Harley down the PCH but just enjoying the rest of my life.
