You Don’t Have To Work For Yourself To Bet On Yourself

There’s a misconception that you have to quit your job and open a business in order to take control of your career.

That couldn’t be further from the truth.

When I say I help people who bet on themselves win, I don’t just mean entrepreneurs or solopreneurs.

I mean people who work for others as well.

I was betting on myself LONG before I started my own business.

In fact, betting on myself was consistently the key to my success over the course of 20 years working for other companies as an employee.

A couple examples of how I bet on myself as an employee:

1. When I interviewed for a job at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the position I was applying for was a low-level social media manager job.

But in an interview, I suggested they needed to create a digital media department and that they should hire me to run it and build it out.

Whatever I said must have been convincing because that’s what they did.

I bet on my own ability to build a department from scratch and to convince them what they were looking for wasn’t what they needed.

It worked – I led them from 400k followers to more than 10M and helped create the infamous Ellen selfie at the Oscars.

Betting on myself in that interview was a huge turning point in my career.

2. A few years before I went to The Academy, I landed two job offers – one as a marketing writer for Disney and one as head of content/marketing for a failing startup comedy website.

Despite the Disney job paying almost twice as much and the lawyer at the startup telling me they couldn’t guarantee me the company would be around more than 3 months longer because they were out of funding, I took the comedy job.

Once again, it changed my career and I wound up working there for a couple years and learning a ton (which I eventually shared in my interview for The Academy job).

Again, I was willing to bet on myself and my ability even while working for others.

If you’re betting on yourself in your career – or you’d like to – I’d love to help you win that bet.

There are a lot of ways I can do so depending what you need.

Let’s chat.
