Moving my newsletter into my paid membership will have a BIG benefit I haven’t mentioned yet:
It will make my newsletter better.
For several reasons:
1. The bar will be raised.
Instead of needing to be good enough to keep subscribers reading, it will now need to be good enough to keep members paying for it.
That’s a big difference.
But it’s a challenge I’m excited about because while I’ve always held my newsletter to a high standard, this will push me to deliver even more value through it.
2. The data will be more valuable.
I pay attention to who clicks what in my newsletter, what draws replies, and every other signal I can get from my readers.
But up until this point that data may be skewed by the engagement of readers who aren’t actually my ideal audience.
While my newsletter will now go to fewer people – the data will be much more valuable because I’ll know that engagement is only coming from my members.
It will be interesting to see if I notice shifts in my stats with regards to what resonates with my paid members compared to what used to resonate with my free subscribers.
3. My business model will free up more time to invest in the newsletter.
More people becoming members to get the newsletter means more revenue coming in which allows me to justify spending more time creating the newsletter and less time on other projects.
This will help me make the newsletter even stronger as well as allow me to engage more directly with more of my readers.
All things that will boost the overall quality of the newsletter.
And the idea that my amazing newsletter is about to get even more amazing has me incredibly excited about this transition.
