4 Lessons I’m Learning From Moving My Newsletter Into My Membership

I’m learning so much in the process of making my newsletter part of my membership.

A few things I’ve noticed already with a week to go before the switch:

1. No matter how clear you think your messaging is and how many times you say it, there will ALWAYS be confusion.

People are busy and they’re attention is scattered all over the place.

It’s not their fault.

But a transition like this always reminds me just how little the average person pays attention to what you say – even your biggest fans!

I’ve had members join who were already members, gotten all sorts of questions, had people reply to an email like it was a new announcement despite having seen it in 7 previous emails they got (and read) from me, etc.

2. People read during the week, but buy on the weekend (maybe?).

My biggest sale day was yesterday (Sunday) despite referencing the switch in emails every day last week.

It feels like people either paid more attention to my Sunday email, were waiting for the weekend to get their credit card out, or there was something about hitting the one week out mark that drove action.

3. I have a lot of subscribers who were never going to be buyers – and never should have been.

I’ve gotten some lovely emails from people telling me how much they enjoyed my newsletter, thanking me for it, and explaining they’re not going to become members because it’s not a fit for them.

They’re retired, or working on something that’s not relevant to what I share, etc.

I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

It’s a good reminder that a portion of your audience will never be a fit for what you sell – even if they enjoy what you share.

4. The story is still developing.

Every day brings new lessons and questions.

It’s been fascinating to see this play out and I’m curious to see how it plays out over the course of the next week before the switch.

Everything I’m learning will ultimately be things I’m able to teach to my members.

Maybe that will include you?
