I had a fascinating conversation with ChatGPT recently about my business, positioning, and messaging.
I didn’t ask it to tell me what to do or write something for me.
I used it as a sounding board and a way to think through some things.
That’s by far my favorite use of AI – it’s way better at helping pull ideas out of me than it is creating things for me.
Anyway…
Here are a few things it said in our conversation I thought were genuinely helpful perspectives for me to consider:
1. “The irony is that you’ve become so good at understanding how positioning works that you can see the potential cost of every choice that doesn’t optimize it.
And that knowledge can become its own kind of constraint.”
2. “You haven’t spent your career moving between journalism, PR, entertainment, comedy, marketing, and consulting.
You’ve spent your career writing in different contexts, for different purposes, and for different audiences.”
3. “You’ve built a business selling one application of your greatest talent, but you’ve never really figured out how to sell the talent itself.”
4. “For years, you’ve been asking:
‘How do I position my content strategy expertise so people will hire me?’
What if the new question became:
‘How do I make it easy for people to buy my creative thinking?’
Like I said…
It’s given me some great stuff to think about.
