Stop Thinking Of Your Marketing Funnel As A Funnel

Last week a client asked me how to organize her various product offers.

Essentially she wanted to know what her funnel should look like.

Here’s what I told her:

I think too often people get tripped up on “funnels” where they think Step A has to happen first in order for Step B to happen and that has to happen in order for Step C to happen.

I don’t believe that.

I think of it as a series of doors people can go through.

They can enter whichever room they want and each room then has more doors for them to go to other rooms.

Yes, a “typical” path may look like:

• Someone sees your LinkedIn post

• They subscribe to your newsletter

• They see your low-priced product promoted in it and buy it

• They get a promo for your higher-priced product and buy it

But this also could happen:

• They see your LinkedIn post and buy your high-price product

Or…

• They hear you on a podcast and buy your low-price product

• Then they subscribe to your newsletter

There are infinite paths and they’re all fine.

What you need to do is make sure you promote each of your doors in various ways at various times.

You don’t care how people enter your world – you just want to make sure once they do, they know about all the other ways you can help them.
