A Viral Content Strategy Almost No One Is Using

Most people try to go viral by posting more often or chasing trends directly. This strategy works differently – and it’s one of the smartest content approaches I’ve seen lately.

A guy named Anish Moonka is consistently going viral with a content strategy I’ve never seen before.

He’s doing it on Twitter, but I bet it could work on LinkedIn and for just about any niche.

Here’s what he does:

1. He finds a tweet about tech, science, or history that’s gone viral.

2. He reposts it with a comment.

3. His comment is an in-depth backstory about something in the original tweet.

It’s simple.

But his well-researched and high quality content adds a layer of interesting related context to the original tweet.

People are loving it – he’s regularly getting hundreds of retweets.

Often even more than the original tweet.

For example, this tweet of his about Winston Churchill has 12,000 retweets compared to “only” 3,000 that the original person’s tweet got.

A few elements of this strategy to note:

• By picking already viral tweets to post about, he ensures he’s talking about topics with proven interest.

• He’s not just adding surface level stuff – the stories he adds are deep and genuinely interesting on their own.

• Because many of the original tweets that go viral are about things in the news, he likely benefits from tapping into trending topics.

The only flaw with his strategy?

He’s doing it on Twitter which is a cesspool.

(I’m kidding. Sort of.)

I’ve experimented with a version of this format on LinkedIn recently and haven’t gone viral with it (that’s not my goal anyway), but the posts have performed well.

Here’s one example of mine and here’s another that performed well for me.
