1. Write for clients, not search engines.
The days of stuffing keywords into a blog post and hoping Google magically sends traffic your way are over.
(Thank God.)
Don’t optimize for search – optimize to provide unique value to your ideal clients.
Share stories, examples, and experiences that are unique to you and helpful to your target audience.
Posts powerful enough to make someone who reads them want to buy from you.
Don’t write to get traffic, write to provide value.
The traffic will come from distributing those posts to people who want to tell others about them.
(More on how to do that coming soon in a future post.)
2. Turn every question someone asks you into a blog post.
The simplest way to publish blog posts your ideal clients will find valuable is to publish your answers to the questions they have.
Every question you answer on social media can be turned into a blog post.
Every question you answer on a coaching call can be turned into a blog post.
Every question you answer in an email can be turned into a blog post.
And once you do, each of those go from being a bit of value you provided to a single person to a bit of value you provided to the entire world…
Forever.
3. Publish a “Read This Before You Hire…” blog post.
Write a blog post designed to guide people who are considering buying what you offer.
Not specifically from you, but buying it in general.
Title it: “Read This Before You Hire A _____” or “Read This Before You Buy A _____.”
Use the post to explain what potential buyers should consider before buying that thing (from anyone) and help them make a wise purchase (or avoid a bad one).
In doing so you not only help them, but also reveal your take on what makes this type of purchase a good (or bad) one and make clear your unique positioning.
It’s not a sales post – it’s a helpful resource.
At the bottom of the post, explain how they can hire you if what you said resonated with them.
An example:
My Read This Before You Hire A Social Media Consultant blog post uses this post format and has landed me several clients over the years.
