I rewrote a client’s website home page yesterday.
After doing it, I explained why I made the changes I made and thought I’d share some of that here to help you as well.
For context, my client is a consultant and the goal of her site is to land more clients.
A few things to keep in mind with your home page if you’re in a similar situation:
1. The goal of your home page is to make the right people interested enough to reach out to you and start a conversation – that’s it.
You want to keep that in mind and tailor every element of it accordingly.
Don’t fall into the common trap of talking “about” a bunch of stuff as opposed to talking TO a potential client.
2. Make it simple and clear for people to understand who you help, what you help them do, how it works, and what to do next (contact you).
(This is even more important on your sales page – my Sales Page Creator can help you do it.)
3. You don’t need TOO many details on your home page.
The nuts and bolts details of your offer are only necessary AFTER people express interest.
Showing every little detail on your home page risks that it just confuses people or turns them off with no other context.
Remember:
All you’re trying to do is make someone curious enough to reach out and mystery adds to the curiosity.
4. Incorporate a couple powerful testimonials into the page in the areas I suggested above.
You can still have the client logos at the bottom of the page, but it’s helpful to have a few testimonials within the main sections as well.
